Noble Rot Rooftop Resturant

noblerotIn my short 4-day stay in Portland, I had a great time visiting with friends and family. I felt like it was definitely a business trip and I just had to try out one new place. I was pleasantly surprised. The wife and I always drive by this place and never knew it was a restaurant. The owners -- a lovely couple -- changed the name from "Rocket."

The new high-rise restaurant first of all stops you with the great views, secondly the crowd is a great mixed crowd: older hipster, parents with babies, newly 30s, yet still cool and in the know, and flat-out retirees packed this place. Even though it was busy, I didn't feel cramped. I love the whole ambiance -- the concrete mixed with the open kitchen and modern furniture allowed me to just focus on the food and the view. The added bonus to this place is the fact that they grow they're own herbs on the roof in a beautiful garden. Talk about keeping it local. I mean, you can't get any fresher than that.

I had the sole, my friends had burgers and the short rib pasta. There wasn't a spec of food left on any plate. People were stuffed. That's one thing that i truly appreciate about a good restaurant is if everyone eats the food until they're stuffed, but in a good way like, it's so good you don't want to disgrace it by putting it in a microwave a day or two later.

Overall, I dug this place. When I get back I'd definitely want to try the burger which was cooked to perfection and maybe try their wine selection out thoroughly and see what else I can like from Noble Rot.
People, I recommend this place. It's solid. Also very accommodating to large parties and during the summer time it's always going to be a great spot.

  1. I’ve been wanting to check that place out. I drive by it every day on my way home from work. Now I definitely know it’s worth it!
It’s been good to see you on the court Channing, but odd rooting against you. I’m always rooting for you to do well except when you play against the Blazers.
And congrats to you and your wife, my guess was it will be a girl.

  2. Why have you become such a cry baby with the Suns? Hated to see you leave Portland but couldn’t be happier now!

  3. Noble Rot started as a very small wine bar on Ankeny and 28th. It was the first place my wife and I checked out when we moved here. The new place is still good, but lacks the charm of the old one.

  4. Hey Channing!

Just recently moved to Portland but have been following your blog for a while. Anyway to get back at those old posts you used to make about restaurants in the area, since I can’t seem to be able to locate them.
Also, any more suggestions? I always enjoy your recommendations and reviews.

  5. hey channing; went to the noble rot on saturday night after the blazers victory. i guess we missed you! it felt good to celebrate in style. my lady recommended it, and she’s got a huge crush on you, so she’ll be happy to know that you have the same taste in restaurants.

hope that when you get back to pdx for game six, you eat somewhere that gives you food poisoning. nothing personal, but the blazers really need to win that one.

at any rate, nice review! looking forward to the end of this series so i’ll no longer hate you. but hey, if you guys advance, i’ll be on the suns bandwagon through to the finals.

  6. Stay weird Channing. Glad you could thrive in a system that suites you buddy. Just wish it could have been in Portland.

  7. Yo Channing,

You are the tits. Keep on dropping them treys and stay active on the offensive glass. Y’all played great last night, so keep it up – especially when we play those goddamn Spurs!! To me, you are the best pick-up in the NBA over the off-season. Keep workin hard man!

  8. I was at Noble Rot on Friday evening and my wife and I were a little star struck when we realized you were there. I didn’t want to bother you with an autograph request. We’re big fans of yours!

P.S. Tell Amare to stop being a punk.

  9. I had a great experience at that restaurant. I will say the giant billboard makes an otherwise great view a little weird. Nothing like having fine cheese and wine, with a huge “HUNGERECTOMY” sign from Snickers staring back at you.

  10. As a Portlander currently living in Phoenix, thanks for appreciating our city. Phoenix isn’t too bad, either.

I can’t wait for this series to be over so I can go back to thinking of you as one of my favorite NBA players. In the meantime, BOOOOOO SUNS!

  11. watched you allll the time in tucson when you were a wildcat! im an arizona sports fan for life (except asu) so i was very happy when i saw that you were a sun player!!! good luck in the future and bear down

  12. I have drank there once, I did not realize it was a restaurant too. I will have to check it out.
Life long Blazer fan but I have to say I am a huge Channing Fry fan. Easily the coolest guy to ever play for the Blazers. I was actually happy to see the good game. I was thinking “eat that Nate”. Then I was sad we got beat down, but then I had a Blue Moon! Some people in Portland still think you are the bees knees!!

  13. Channing,
The pleasure was ours! We loved having you. We look forward to seeing you this summer. It was great meeting you. Now lay off the 3 pointers!
    Courtney – Noble Rot

  14. ignore all the blazer haters channing. they’re just pissed that you’re so good as a phoenix sun! good luck in game 6!

  15. C. Frye! My favorite Suns player EVER! Love it! We love having you here at home in PHX! You are a great player with such a laid back attitude and on the same level as anyone else around you! Keep up the great work! Your clutch 3’s make me jump of my chair everytime! =) Best of luck tomorrow! Bring home that first round win! GO SUNS!
