Hawaii

So, I'm here in Hawaii for the week to do a co-ed youth basketball camp with Steve Blake and the camp is being held at the school where Obama went. It turns out that not too many NBAers get over here and the kids are super into it, so I'm glad I have a chance to be here and kind of share what I do and spend some time with these guys. There are some good fans here -- I hear the camp is sold out. I'm also going to be working at a coaches camp and going to see the Boys & Girls Club at the end of the week. It's gonna be a goooood week.

The people who've coordinated this have been really cool. During our downtime, my fiancee and I get to check out the great weather and they've hooked us up with some really cool activities I can tell you about later. Right now I wanted to share a little video with you guys about where I'm staying. Check this out:

  1. Channing, you made it to a spot in a dream I had. Love the person doing sand laps!

    Enjoy your downtime,
    g

  2. I guess that’s OK if you like surf, sand, sun, views, swimming pools and all that… ;)

  3. Love all the videos!!! If you could get some video of you and steve blake working the camp that would be cool!!

  4. Nice…looks like a sweet pad with an awesome view. A nice Waikiki beach resort (Hilton I think). It’s been a long time since I went to Hawaii. You and your fiancee enjoy the time. Go snorkeling, take a boat trip, swim with dolphins, lots of great activities. I’m sure the people will have you doing the best stuff.

  5. Hey Channing, You got a thing for tall buildings?! Your shots of the beach below made me woozy! Get down to those beaches in between your camp and B&G Club volunteering. Fun, fun, fun for you and your sweetie! Oh, and Steve. :)

  6. That is so beautiful! I want to go there now.

  7. I think I saw Cedric Ceballos doing a blindfolded dunk over one of those waves. sick

  8. Thanks for spending time withe the kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii! They loved meeting you and can’t stop talking about it. Aloha!

    darth fix

  10. Channing what’d you think of the draft. We replaced you with a guy who is WAY worse than you, and he’s a Sun Devil. WTF!!! The Blazers turning into garbage under Nate McMillan. You need to resign with us and kick Nate’s ass cause he sucks. Stay here in Portland Channing, get rid of Nate. That’ll make things better.

  11. channing! you’re leaving us… i’m gonna miss seein you in pdx so much! you’re one of the nicest guys we’ve ever had on the team. i hope you can come back and visit sometimes! good luck w/ where ever you go.

  12. sad to see the blazers parting ways. hope you still visit pdx from time to time.

  13. Well, crap … we all knew it was coming, but it’s sad to see you part ways with the Blazers. I hope you make Portland your off-season home and I hope you catch on with a team that gives you a chance to play and showcase your talents. Best of luck!

  14. Sorry to see you leaving the blazers. I wish you all the luck in the world and know you will be a star no matter where you go. Just don’t sign wit the Lakers!!! ;)

  15. d00000d…

Hopefully you can get some decent minutes elsewhere. You’ve got a game that will translate to a lot of teams…really sorry it didn’t work out here. But, if I don’t miss my guess, you’ll be back…maybe not as a player, but as a weird member of the Portland community.

Good luck, from a Blazer fan, a Portland resident and a Frye fan…

  16. Hey C.Frye — Thanks for the time you spent on the Blazers. Portland is fortunate to have counted you as one of its residents for the last couple of years, and I hope you make this your permanent home. The more good peeps in Portland, the better! Best of luck on whatever team you end up on – I hope you get some good minutes where you can play a more significant role.

Thanks for being a good dude.

  17. I too am sad to see you leave the Blazers, but hope that you remain a Portlander and know that you will always be popular here in Bridgetown/ Stumptown / PDX / RipCity. BTW, I think it’s funny the way the Oregonian website story announcing your free agency has a picture of you giving the bird to the camera (well, if you ignore the basketball spinning on your middle finger). I found it to be a poetic touch. -Curt

Here’s the Oregonian Story with the pic in case anyone wants to look: http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2009/06/no_qualifying_offer_coming_for.html

  18. Channing, I am so sad you will no longer be a Blazer! You are such a great guy and a wonderful ambassador for the team. Thank you for getting involved in the community and really becoming a member of the city. It seems like such a rarity for athletes to get as involved with the community as you have. I will keep up with your blog for sure! I hope you end up somewhere where you can get more minutes. And, remember Portland loves you!

    Frye fan for life-

    Kira

  19. Thanks for everything you did for the Blazers and the community. I wish you the best on what ever team you land on. I hope its in the East so you only have 2 games to kill us instead of 4. I know you got game and I wish it would have worked out. I will continue to follow your career. Once a Trail Blazer always a Trail Blazer.

    Good luck
    Ben

  20. Frye, my man!
Portland is going to miss you.
you embraced the city, and the city embraced you!
we all can only hope you find a great fit somewhere where your awesome skills can be used.
also hope you don’t loose your p-town love!
good luck in all your endeavors..

  21. Frye,

We will miss you next year. Best of luck with your next team. Hope to hear you on the radio still.

  22. You are really going to be missed. Best wishes wherever you land. Portland will miss you.

  23. Portland will miss such a quality guy. I was so bummed to here you are leaving. Hope were ever you go that you and Milton will be happy. Portlanders will always welcome you with open arm… remember that and come visit often.

  24. Your game was so much like Jordan’s, I think a farewell jingle is in store.

“Sometimes I dream, that he is me. You’ve got to see that’s how I dream to be.

Slappin’ high fives, watching Rudy’s drives, like Frye, if I could be like Frye.

Won’t break a sweat, won’t touch the net, like Frye, if I could be like Frye.

Me and Ruffin, we’re Super Friends, like Frye, if I could be like Frye.”

  25. All the best to you and yours.
Sad to hear you’ll be moving on I hope you get a better fit than you had this year.
    You will be missed

  26. Holla at you Channing. Hate to see you go. You are the coolest Blazer and probably the most down to earth player in the league. You will be missed. Hope to see you maximize that talent on whatever team is lucky enough to snatch you up.

P.S. Saw you at Por Que No last night on Hawthorne and it made my week. Was that your GTO our front?

  27. Channing man. sad to see you go. you’re the best personality in the NBA today, and your style fit perfectly in PDX. i hope you land on a quality team and get your minutes, not only because you deserve it, but because the NBA and the world in general would benefit greatly from you in a bigger spotlight. take it easy man, and later in your life when this NBA player stuff gets lame, move back here!

  28. We will miss you C-Frye..

Do us a favor. Make some millions and in a few years when your winding down your career come back to the Blazers and help us win a few championships.

You will always be welcome in Portland!!

  29. Fryelock, I am so sad that the team is not renewing your contract. You have embraced this team, this culture and this city with all your might and we appreciate it! I respect you and your involvement in the community immensely. I love your blogs, your interviews, your radio bits and everything. We here in Portland are really losing a great ambassador. I hope you stay living here in the off season. I think you’re a baller and hopefully wherever you end up gives you the PT so you can shine! KPW.

  30. Channing come back to your roots and play for the Suns you could definitely be our starting center.

  31. Channing – We are so excited you are in Hawaii!! My son is coming to see you at your radio interview and can’t stop talking about it. He has huge basketball aspirations, and since we never get NBA players in Hawaii, this is a once in a lifetime chance for him. Hoping you’ll have time to “talk story” with him – his name is Kaili and he’s really looking forward to meeting you. Mahalo nui loa for coming to help out our Hawaii keiki (children)!

Aloha – Maile (more commonly known as “Kaili’s Mom”)
