Hey UofA
To all my UofA cats out there, what is gonna happen with our coach next year?
Well, before that, I want to say congratulations to the coaching staff and the players we have there now because really everyone in the country wrote them off and to still make it to the sweet 16 was great.
But back to my conversation, what have you heard, who do you know? Let me know the 411 on my program.

The latesst word is that Tim Floyd from USC will be coming over.

They were talking to Mark Few from my alma mater, but he apparently said no thanks. For his sake, I’m not sure if that was a good idea or not.

I’ve heard that Damon Stodmire was intrested but has said he wants more experience coaching.

UofA? What about WSU? I am more concerned with what is going to happen to the vacancy at Washington State University. Rumor has it that Terry Porter may have been on campus yesterday. Sick. Anything that can combine Trailblazer alum with the cougs, I am all for that.

Yep. It looks like Tim Floyd (Current USC coach that brought the Trojans to 3 straight NCAA appearances). I was really hoping for Mark Few. I thought he was ready to move to Tucson about 4 years ago when Lute’s health concearns was being discussed. Others we heard: Tubby Smith, Lon Kruger, Mark Fox, Reggie Theus.

I’m supposed to be swamped at work, but yet I find myself checking all the sports news sites every 30 minutes or so. My boss is going to love me. I wonder how far down the list Tim Floyd is/was when the coaching search first started, or if he was even on the list 6 months ago. I realize a lot of big name coaches have it made and there’s no real reason to jump to another school, even if it is to traditional bball power UA, but Calipari just did it so it’s possible. Granted Kentucky has greater appeal historically and most of the big name coaches don’t need greater appeal, a better team, or a stronger conference, etc. It just doesn’t make sense to me that Tim Floyd would “win the press conference” as UA AD Jim Livengood put it a few days ago. That wasn’t a smart quote on his part and I bet you he’s wishing he hadn’t said it. With UA’s bball history and tradition, I doubt the fans will be patient enough like with the football team and Stoops hiring and turnaround. Crossing my fingers, if Floyd IS the next coach of UA, that he’s a great coach, I think everyone hopes for a great coach ultimately no matter who it ends up being, but right now I’m not on the Tim Floyd bandwagon. Just my honest opinion.

Tim Floyd, are you serious? I enjoyed Russ Pennell way to much. Reminded me of a young Lute Olson. He actually cared about his players. Tim has done great things for USC, so maybe I am being too hard on him!

Tim Floyd has apparently called a press conference in LA at 3pm PDT/MST. Not sure what it means that the PC is in LA. I guess it could either way, he’s either staying at USC, or he didn’t want to hop on a plane back to Tucson to be introduced as the new coach. I just can’t imagine he’d announce he’s taking the UA position in LA and not Tucson with Livengood. Again, just pure speculation on my part. The link to the PC story is below.

And TF is officially staying at USC. Anyone else heard anything about what’s next for UA???

Arizona is now going after Xavier’s Sean Miller. I’m not sure if he’s a good fit for Tucson, but a great talent.

It’s not a great day to be a Wildcat. It’s an AWESOME day to be a Wildcat! First, Arizona hires Xavier’s Sean Miller as its head coach. Woo! Then former UA player/coach/all-everything Josh Pastner is named head coach at Memphis, replacing the departed John Calipari.

Gratz on scoring Sean Miller for your beloved ‘Cats! Perhaps he can keep the streak alive
