Just ask me.
Well, hey everyone. I know it's been a while since I've written something deep. But, hey, that’s how life is sometimes. One thing I have to say is thanks again to everyone who supports me and the C. Frye Foundation. I love reading everyone's emails because, yes, I do read them all.
Well, since I prefaced this whole story, already I received an email from a fan who had a great question. I was asked a few weeks ago about the Sam Adams “controversy." For everyone who doesn’t know, Sam Adams was the Mayor of Portland and resigned due to an issue with his “supposed” underage gentlemen. He is gay; he was actually the 1st gay mayor of a top 30 state in America. Well, anyway, they asked me about the whole situation and my answer was “ewwww.” Of course, me being who I am, I didn’t think of how that was going to come across because they didn’t preface it that Sam Adams is a 47-year old man and that was the reason I said eww. It had nothing to do with him being gay. I couldn't care less -- gay, straight, bi, whatever -- he could be a dang king of the L.A.R.P.ing community; if he is doing what he needs to do for the city of Portland and the state of Oregon, I'm cool with it.
I am not a homophobe. Live and let live. But that brings me to my subject of this whole little blog entry. I appreciate the person who sent me that email asking to clarify what he read because in today's age, things get lost in translation and I open the public up to ask me whatever they want. Of course, I'm gonna not answer a lot of questions having to do with either my personal life or my teammates' personal lives, but I really want this to be a forum for people to be able to get closer and to have a deeper insight on not only how we think or live as professional athletes, but a better way that we can continue this great relationship between the athletes of Portland and the fans.

This entry sounds like a true Oregonian. I know you are an Arizona guy, but your mentality and attitude are pure Northwest. Hope you stay here for a longtime even when you retire. Portland needs more people like you.

Good attitude about it, but before you go putting stuff out on the web you should get your facts straight. For one, he supposedly didn’t sleep with the underage kid (waited until he turned 18), and as mentioned above he didn’t resign. Don’t get me wrong, I still think his moves were creepy, but I expect more of you Channing, you are supposed to represent this City as well.

I thought your thoughts were conveyed effectively. I think anyone in Portland who know the back story about Sam Adams would understand you were disgusted by the difference in age not the fact that it was a homosexual relationship.
Maybe people who were aware of the backstory should investigate the facts before coming to a quick conclusion.
I don’t know why the poster above is being so critical of you. I think that you are representing the Rose City well and I hope you keep it up.

Where has this fierce dunking Channing gone? The jumpers are nice, but I think it’s time you re-introduced a lil nastiness!

Apologies – just noticed that vid takes a sour turn at about 3:40. No need to watch beyond there.

For what it’s worth, when I saw that in the Oregonian several weeks again, I assumed the “Ewwww!” was in reference to the inappropriateness of Sam, as a 47 year-old, having a relationship with a teenager–not that it had anything to do with his being gay. But, even though that was my assumption, thank you so much for addressing this issue directly–it would be unfortunate if anyone read that statement and thought otherwise.

The details about his story weren’t really my point but sorry to have messed up some of the facts. You can check out the real story online. Here’s the Wikipedia link on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Adams_(Oregon_politician)

Whew, for a while you weren’t my favorite player any more! Thanks for clarifying. I’ll continue to save for a jersey.

The last part of your statement is the most important.
‘if he is doing what he needs to do for the city of Portland and the state of Oregon, I’m cool with it. ‘
Glad to have you in the community.
Sam is doing what needs to be done, and the city is getting things done and moving forward.
