Role Models

Going into Role Models, I heard some good things, but I didn't have any expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. It was hilarious. With a cast that was basically the same as from Knocked Up and Forty Year Old Virgin, this movie was honestly non-stop laughter from dirty jokes to serious sarcasm. I would have to venture out on a limb and say I like this almost better than Step Brothers.

I give this movie 4 fries and a half order of frye sauce. The funniest part of this movie was their joking about LARPing. This does truly exist and I have a video you have to check out. In fact, I'm thinking of making my own LARPing Guild during the off-season to stay in shape and keep my bo staff skills sharp.

Okay, here is what LARP is:

And in honor of the LARPers, I give you this video. May you LARP forever and may the battlefields be filled with duct tape and just-pretend soldiers.

  1. whispering eye…

  2. BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  3. lvb,

Whispering eye was epic!! My girlfriend and I have added it to our vocabularies in hopes that it will soon be a household term.

  4. nice. you just made the decision for me to go check this one out. Thanks!

  5. Holy awesomeness. Please Channing can I join your guild? (is that even what its called?) and we can dress up like the Harlem globetrotters and “vanquish” enemies with basketball tricks and super awkwardness.

  6. Channing. I’m all for Keeping Portland Weird, but please, not that weird.

  7. Hey man, nice game last night. I noticed you do some serious stretching ahead of the game. Take a look at this article, it is worth considering:

Best of luck with the season.

  8. hauahahuahauhauhauaa. funny videos. thanx

  9. I have a coworker who LARPs, and I have trouble keeping a straight face when I get in to intricate conversations with him about it. He told me that he would help me fashion armor, I was like sweet. I would totally join your guild. HA! oh yeah, and Role Models was great.

  10. Channing…looks like you’re doing your part for the Portland weirdness. Truth be told, it feels like you fit here…take that as you will…lol

  11. Funny flick man.

I Love Paul Rudd. That guy is great in every comedic role he plays.

    “Jeez, it’s like Shrek’s piss”

Whispering eye is classic. So many great lines that I really shouldn’t post here.

  12. Channing, I hope you never get traded and spend your entire NBA career here in Portland.

  13. As much as I would like to poke fun I know I’m one trash can lid shield and aluminum foil helmet away from joining them. You’re a cool Portland guy Channing. Let me know when you start your guild. lol

  14. I can’t believe you actually have a blog post about LARPing. My girl works with a LARPer that’s part of a LARP posse in N and he’s no joke. Apparently he wields a wolf sword and leaves a path of destruction wherever he LARPs. To LARP is officially my new favorite verb.

    Good job, Channing.

  15. I think that a St. Mary v. BCP LARP group would be a phenomenal battle. It would settle once in for all who is the premier Catholic school in Phoenix (I think in this case the losers of the LARP battle would actually be the winners). You have been challenged!!!!!!!!!! BCP1999

  16. The Whispering Eye was definitely a good line. Gotta say, though, I liked Sean Williams Scott a lot more than Paul Rudd who just seemed whiny and overly morose. Pretty sure we were all thinking the only issue with Elisabeth leaving him was why she took so long…though his rant on the stupid coffee names was epic.

  17. So Channing, I was the kid this summer with brown curly hair that was at the practice facility, and I had just climbed mt adams, so I had a sunburn that made me resemble Ronald McDonald. But besides that, I’m wholeheartedly with you on LARPing. I have been at the tipping point for some time, and I am down for larping whenever wherever.

  18. This isn’t your kind of music but it definitely qualifies for some keep Portland wierd points & ties right in to the hole LARPing thread:

    Enjoy!

  19. Frye, you are the least stereotypical athlete I’ve ever seen… I’m still not convinced that “larping” is cool (actually the idea of these “adults” doing this when they could be helping their mom buy their groceries is a little disturbing), but I bet you Zach Randolph would never have the guts to post a blog like this… if he even knows how to turn on a computer. Keep being who you are man, Portland has needed a Sports celebrity like you for a long time.

  20. “…and may the battlefields be filled with duct tape and just-pretend soldiers.”

    nice words channing.

  21. Channing man, I was a fan back when you were with the Knicks, but I never knew you had such good taste in movies. Role Models is my favorite comedy of the fall so far. As for LARP, when I was in school in Montreal a giant group of them used to get together every Sunday and have a huge duct tape Battle Royale up on the mountain. Far more entertaining than most other things you could be doing on a Sunday afternoon, and it was hilarious to see it up on the big screen. Keep up the great blog man.

  22. Way to go Channing! You make Portland sound more interesting day by day – LARPing I would have never guessed! Keep up the blog, and good luck with this year’s season. I am keeping the flame alive for my Wizards (Bullets). Portland’s resurrection gives me hope.

If you do take up LARPing in the offseason you have to post about it. Too cool ;)

  23. Channing you are the NBA’s best blogger by far freekin hilarious!

  24. I can’t LARP. I don’t have a sweet red hatchback.

  25. He isn’t kidding. He also plays World of Warcraft… Channing is a dork.

  26. Larping looks and sounds to me like paintballing but with more ducktape.

  27. I run a LARP out of the Massachusetts area – stop by and check it out it’s lots of fun!
    Adam

  28. man, that stuff is real as hell. in montreal, quebec there is a big park in the center of town where they do that type of thing every sunday in the summer. you haven’t lived until you have seen a old ass man lance a 9 year old with a broomstick wrapped in duct tape.

  29. Here’s a comic on Live Action Work Playing that I love:
    http://www.toothpastefordinner.com/112208/live-action-work-playing.gif

Fun blog, Channing! But it’s been short on the poop ratings lately. Those are my favorite.

  30. That is some funny chit!!!

  31. Yes, Channing is a dork. And a professional athlete. How AWESOME is that?

  32. I could see them doing this in the wrong place, like Irving Park, and cops driving by, seeing this chaos of swordplay, and bringing the heat to all these douchies. Now that would be Live Action entertainment. Or the 89 player Crunch game that the Mexicans play on the court, rolling over into a great misunderstanding of turf battle. Either way duct tape losses.

  33. http://neroreunion.wetpaint.com/

The 20th Anniversary of NERO is being held next March. It is being put together by Ford Ivey, who created the game. It’s like Gary Gygax putting together a D&D convention. It’s going to be great.

Did you know that Matt Damon played NERO?

  34. Please tell me you’ve watched the movie ‘Monster Camp’?!?

It is a documentary about LARPing that was shot mostly in Seattle. It is available to rent and is definitely worth watching if you think those YOUtube clips were funny.

  35. Dude, if you like that you gotta see I Love You Man. Hilarious. I love ur blog man, cracks me up every time.

    Keep it real Lord Frye

OH btw check out LARPS Lightning Bolt.. Hilarious

  36. Have you heared about a game which you need use Anarchy credits to play,
