C. Frye Musical Showcase

Being in Portland, I figure I'd share some of Portland's talent. Here's a video of my friend's band, The Cancer Fags (as in the British word for cigarette).

Feel free to post your comments and also to let me know if there is other local talent that you think needs to be heard. Send links and add to the C. Frye Musical Showcase.

  7. sandpeople is an uber-rad rap collective from portland. they’re amazing.

eskimo & sons, and strength are also spectacular.

  8. Channing, check out my friend’s band, Oceans. My favorite song, Streets and Lights, is down, but try Wide Open Spaces to get an idea of what they’re about.

  9. Pretty cool song. For Portland bands you should check out Menomena and The Helio Sequence. I also like Fleet Floxes and Blitzen Trapper as well.

Portland has so much good music. Gotta love this town.

  10. Channing…you gotta check this stuff out. Truckasaurus is way hot stuff!

They are from Seattle and come to portland regularly. One of the best acts from the northwest ever! 8-bit electro is where its at! Please weird out the other blazers and your girlfriend with this music.

  13. Hey dude,

Couple things – thanks for giving the shout out to the Tribune, I got to intern with Steve Brandon last summer and he’s one of the nicest, most down-to-earth people I’ve ever met, so it was nice to see him get some props.

Secondly, speaking of Portland music, I was reading TrueHoop earlier today and came across this rapper, Laz-D, who is a former high school classmate of Salim Stoudamire. This is the link I found: http://www.myspace.com/lazdmusic. How does he stand out? He has Down’s Syndrome, and raps about the Blazers. And you may not expect it, but he’s actually good.

  14. Here’s a silly video I made for my friend Tom Heinl, a great local musician.
