My ankle

Yesterday, I had my first surgery, other than my eyeballs earlier this summer.

In a short period of time the Blazers staff helped me to identify the problem and quickly schedule surgery to allow time for healing and rehab, in order to get back out on the court.

Though no one ever wants surgery, I feel better for having taken care of the ankle before the season got started. I want to thank the fans, especially the BLAZER FANS for their continued support.

From the Trail Blazers site:

Channing Frye Undergoes Successful Arthroscopic Ankle Surgery

Forward/center Channing Frye underwent arthroscopic surgery today to remove bone spurs from his left ankle. A Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Saturday and Computed Tomography (CT) Scan today revealed the spurs.

"Channing underwent arthroscopic surgery today on his left ankle after recently experiencing discomfort," said Trail Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard. “We expect him to make a full recovery in 8-10 weeks.”

Dr. Richard Ferkel performed the surgery at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys, Calif.

  1. CFrye, you will be back in NO TIME! We’re with you, can’t wait to see you hit those threes. Take care and come back strong, the Blazer FANS are with you each step of the way.

  2. Maybe someone at the Saturday Market can knit a cozy for your ankle brace. Feel better, k?

  3. I wish you a speedy recovery. Along with everyone else, I’m looking forward to the season and the impact the Blazers will have this year. You’re a big part of the equation, man, so get well soon.

  4. Get well soon Channing! I look forward to watching you come back strong.

  5. perhaps you can spend some of your extra time fine tuning your guitar skills.

  6. Hope your ankle heals up quickly, Channing! Us Blazer fans appreciate you (and the fact that you dig Portland), and are pulling for you to come back strong this year!!

  7. Channing,

Good luck with your rehab. You can watch lots of Dbacks and Cubbies, now. Also time for blogging and reading. Sorry about your ankle but best to have taken care of it and not ignore it. You will come back better than ever. Meanwhile, your bulldogs will have you 24/7! I’m
excited about this season and you’re still a big part of it. Go Blazers!

  8. I know how you feel man…I sprained my pointer finger earlier this week, so I mean, we’re in this mess together. Some mornings I wake up and I just don’t know how I’m going to get out of the bed. But seriously, Cheers to a speedy recovery!!!

  9. With the down time, does this mean more blog posts? Only kidding, get better and good luck. Look forward to watching you healthy this year.

  10. More time to hunt for art for your place!

Seriously, get well soon, and while you’re down help the team as much as you can.

  11. Now you get time to hunt for art, watch a few movies, look for new ways of keeping Portland weird, and all…..oh and rehabbing the ankle!

Good luck with the rehab. I hope all goes well and look forward to seeing you back on the court soo!

  12. Why this summer of all summers?? Man, you were getting into excellent shape, looking to find your spot on a loaded team, and then… bone spurs… dam. I really hope you get back much earlier than the 8-10 weeks the Blazers are telling us. They seem to be really conservative in their estimates, so hopefully you’ll be back in October! Good luck man, and every blazer fan is really looking forward to your return

  13. Stay up Channing. You’re gonna kill em this season.

  14. Good luck with the rehab. We’re all pulling for you.

  15. i appreciate you working so hard this off season even though i dont really know what goes into it all. get well soon im so excited to see you play this fall!

  16. Go Channing! Get well soon!

  17. Oh yeah, first time I’ve posted on your blog, but just wanted to say I was sitting near courtside for that last home game against the lakers last season, when you and lamarcus just tore it up. Man, your shot was falling that night, way to take it to gasol. Good memories.

  18. Don’t load up on too many cheesy burgers while kicking back .

Nothing is easy, this is just one more reminder. You probably will not be the last injury this year so get healthy and get back.

    Best Wishes!

  19. Take care of yourself man! I’m glad you got this taken care of before the season, I can’t wait to see you tear it up with the rest of the guys this season!

  20. Channing, Man sorry to hear your hurtin but get better soon, lay off that ankle till its all the way ready. Our boy Salim was talkin up your game and I was looking forward to seeing you on opening night but alas, I will have to wait. Keep working on that off center long jumper while you are out, definitely my favorite trademarked shot, it killed guys last year. Speedy recovery and god bless.

  21. Frye,

I had the same surgery a few months ago. Not that big of a deal and it was a good excuse to watch all of the Rocky movies in succession:) You should feel ready to rock-n-roll in about 6 weeks bro. Listen to the doctors instructions and do exactly as they say and before you know it, you’ll be ready to roll. Peace out.

  22. Dang. This came as a big shock since I never heard anything other than how great you felt and how wonderful your conditioning is right now. Oh well though, at least you did the right thing and brought your discomfort to the right people. You’ll be better off in the long run! Just do the prescribed rehab, try to keep that cardio up, and have a great season man!

  23. Hey Channing,
Get well soon! You can practice by playing NBA 2k8/2k9 video game. We need you back buddy, your jumper is deadly!

  24. Channing,

You represent this city so well with your character and work ethic. We’re proud to have you as a Blazer and hope your rehab goes smoothly.

Oden kicking the ball out to you on those doubles is going to be a beautiful thing this season.

    /salute

  25. Channing, sorry to hear about the surgery. Take care and rest. This season is going to be on insane ride and you need to be a big part of it. Glad to hear you have increased your range but don’t fall in love with the 3. Get to the rim and do your damage there. If left open outside make them respect you but getting to the rim equals high percentage and free throws. You know the drill. Oh, and if you need art for your place your best bet is my fiance. A nice encaustic painting would look fantastic anywhere you live. She’s the best. Take care and rest that ankle. You guys have serious work to do this season. BEAT LA!

  26. Hey Frye, you are our favorite Blazer. My wife and I hope you have a swift recovery. You are a big part of this team (more ways then one). Don’t push yourself too soon though, Make sure that ankle heals properly. But hey, at least you get to spend more time with your doggies now.

    Take care,
    Colver Family

  27. Channing, sorry to hear about the ankle. Take it easy and rest as needed because you guys have some history to make this season. Glad to hear you have been working on your 3 but please don’t fall in love with it. Get to the rim. That’s where the high FG percentage resides as well as free throws. Take the long ball when they give it to you to keep them honest. You and Greg should take turns throwing down the lobs. Oh and if you need some sweet art for your place I suggest checking out some encaustic paintings my fiance does. She’s doing the art for a new place on Alberta called Radio Room. Nice place. Now get some rest and remember the Blazer Fan mantra, BEAT LA!

  28. Get well soon!

  29. Channing! I am so excited to see you play again this season. After reading about you on the blazers website and watching you on comcast sports net. I am excited to see you stretch out the D by extending the range of your shot and toughen up through boxing. I wanna let you know that there are a lot of people here at George Fox University that will be cheering for you and I also know that My roommate and I would hate to see you have to leave the blazers team. Thanks so much for working so hard for us fans that will be watching you every night! I hope that your recovery goes well and I will be praying for your healthy return!

  30. Channing: So sorry that your season has to start out this way. My girl and I have been so impressed with your accesability and community involvement. You are loved and admired here in the Rose City. The response on you blog says it all…Great Guy!

Add surgery: I am impressed with th pro-active “let’s get this fixed now” attitude the Blazer Organization has shown towards you and Brandon as well as Greg. It will pay dividends down the road. Take your time rehabing and we will be there shouting and screaming when you return!! Take care.

  31. God speed Channing. Just remember that Blazer fans don’t give up on their players. Everyone is pulling for a speedy and sound recovery in my house. Bring back that sick J to confuse the heck out of the defense! And remember, don’t let any Filipinos make you eat that duck fetus. God that was disgusting!

  32. Get well soon. Can I have the removed bone spur for my collection?

  33. Get well brother. We’ll see you soon.

  34. Channing -

Sorry to hear that you needed surgery, but it’s good to hear that it went well. Take the time you need to recuperate fully – the team’s going to need you at 100% once you get back on the court.

    Blessings.
