The Fight in Channing Frye

by Casey Holdahl

Sitting backwards on a chair in a stuffy gym, Channing Frye makes a telling declaration.

“I don’t want to be a lottery bust,” Frye says. “I’m going to say that, though people would probably tell me not to.”

Frye swears he’s never heard his name attached to the phrase, but somehow the notion has made its way into his consciousness. Maybe it’s a residual effect of playing...read more

  1. What I like, Channing, is that it seems you’ve been in Portland nearly all summer. You appear to me to be a very dedicated and loyal man. I truly hope you find your niche on this team for years to come and are able to retire in Portland with a few rings on your fingers. Stories like this sure do make it real easy to root for you! Best of luck this season!

  2. When you work hard, people notice. Good luck this season, Channing! I hope that you get tons of playing time. Go Blazers! Go Cubs!

  3. I have a question, I’m SURE Channing will never read this, but I always wonder…. did Channing embrace NY as much as he has Oregon??? Is Channing an all around felxable guy, and is happy no matter what he is doing no matter where he lives… or does he REALLY love Portland??? I may never know the answer to this question…. who knows?!?!

  4. dude, i’ve been a long time blazer fan. my whole life, born and raised here. and i can say that your dedication to the team is appreciated by us fans. your work ethic, your candor (we’re ALL tired of “athlete speak!”), the way you’ve embraced our city and community, it’s awesome. as a basketball player you are someone I can be proud of, as an articulate person, and as an interactive member of our community you are someone i hope to cross paths with at some point.

as a player on a team that we identify with and call our own, you sir, are a standout. keep on keepin’ on.

  5. I just found out about your blog. Was looking forward to it but the white writing on black just kills my eyes. Hope you change it.
