Local art wanted
So, after living for a year in my house, I'm tired of my bare, white walls and am ready to get some great local artwork. Does anyone have any recommendations? Feel free to post pictures of what some local artists do or send links/information so I can go check out their stuff myself and can complete the feng shui...

Hi Channing,
My husband’s an artist, but a woodworker/furniture maker. He doesn’t have anything to hang on the walls, but he does make some amazing pieces of furniture! Check outh is site if you’re interested…

I work for the Rose Garden and have work at the New American Art Union too. It’s in lower SE (922 SE Ankeny St). There is a generous selection of photography and painting and Ruth Ann Brown is very nice to deal with. See http://www.newamericanartunion.com for details. They are open 12-6PM Thursdays to Sundays.

Hi Channing,
Okay, here’s my bit of shameless self promotion. You can take a look at my website and see if the art speaks to you. My work is currently about the Oregon landscape and I try to create images that show my love the quality of light, and color of this place.
Thanks

Yo, Channing!!!
I am a 54 year old lil’ gray haired lady who does these awesome MASCULINE works of art of architecture and buildings that tell a story—no pretty sunsets, no flowers, nope! My current show, just opened, is at Gallery 7126 in the Pearl, at 1127 NW 16th at the corner of Northrup. Some of my things are on black paper (very dramatic), and are HONKIN’ HUGE and framed and matted just beautifully (if I may say so myself). I think you should go look see, because I’m looking for some nice rich man to buy my stuff so my tax lady will be happy, and so I can retire from my job as a HS Special Ed teacher and do art full time in my old age—oh, pleeze, Channing, go take a look! I want you to fill your beautiful home with works by Gogo….yes, I do!!!!

Hi,
Another option for adding some color to your white walls is to do a mural. The cool thing about murals is that they’re custom done to your tastes. It can be any subject matter you dream of. I’ve been doing murals for 10+ years in Portland. I did Kenny Carr’s wine cellar. You can check out pictures on my website under the “murals” section.
Thanks,
Amy

Hi there,
How about a series of travel documentary images? Mixed with a few cool abstract shots?
http://www.sirenapictures.com
What kind of media and subjects are you drawn to most? Would be great to see what you and your place is like and I can also suggest other artists from the area from art and culture assignments I’ve done around town. No shortage of art and artists… depends on what you seek, are like and what you’re drawn to. Si?!
A few other ideas/places for finding more locally based photography are:
Blue Sky Gallery
Newspace
Quality Pictures
Very glad to hear you’re into supporting locally based artists of Ptown! And glad that the Blazers are about to burn up the courts.
Good wishes!

If you have 119 walls in your house, maybe you’ll get down to the bottom of this list. Are you shopping for art or are you shopping for something pretty to decorate your walls?
Check out the 3 artists at the Littman Gallery at PSU’s Smith Center, Rm. 250 this month until Oct. 30th, M-F 11-4pm.

Two awesome local artists. Angelina has been painting in Portland since the 1980’s. Swing by Roadside Attraction (an awesome little neighborhood bar) at 1000 SE 12th between Belmont and Hawthorne to see her art– she’s painted many of the tables and her art is often on the walls as well.

Hi Channing. I was told you’re looking for local artwork, and I’m guessing you’re still in the market as these things take time. I am a Portland artist, and I’d love for you to check out my website:
http://www.kristinfritz.com
I layer paint and paper to create contemporary, textural pieces. In my current work (”Shades of Gray”), I’m using brown paper grocery bags as a paper source. I specialize in commissions, and typically work on medium- to large-scale canvases. A current commission I’m doing for a new Portland restaurant is 5×6 feet … dynamic!
I hope to have a chance to talk with you personally about those bare, white walls of yours! Thanks for your time. Go Blazers! K

Hi Channing,
Well it may be that you are up to the rafters in local art BUT if you still have room and are interested I would like to re-plug myself : http://www.cathiejoyyoung.com
and also plug the group show I curated which is still up called “Blue Squared”. 32 artists – 65 pieces of art :

I love the Blazers and I think you are pretty great and would be honored if you were interested in my work or that of any of the artists in the above show I mentioned.
Thank you and GO BLAZERS!!!
