More favs
I'm getting a lot of responses about basketball favs and not, so I want to check out a few more opinions.
I figure football season is close by and I've never really got into it being from AZ. It's fun to cheer for the Cardinals because we're ALWAYS the underdog, but I'm putting my fanhood on free agency. I want to know who to cheer for and whoever we pick at the end of this, I'm gonna be a die hard until something drastic happens, like maybe the Cardinals go to the playoffs or something. I have a good feeling about them this year.
Me and a couple of my friends had a huge discussion about who is the most athletic player in all of sports. That’s including iron men, ping pong players, you name it, anything goes. So I know who I said and I wanted to know who y'all think is the most athletic person in the world today.

D’oh! You’re breaking my heart, man! I became a Cards fan while I lived in Scottsdale and couldn’t think of rooting for someone else. Yeah, they’re TERRIBLE and have the worst owners in pro sports, but they’re mine, you know?
So I, for one, would encourage you to take yourself off the free agent list and re-up with the Cards. Then you can spend your Sundays like I do, in a lonely bar in Vancouver screaming at the TV.

The most athletic person in the world? That’s a hard question. The world is so big and what’s the defination of athletic? Do you think gymnastics players are athletic?Their height can’t compare to those basketball player, but they are strong, fast, flexible, with high leaping ability and body coordination ability. Most of female gymnastics player in our country is no more than 5 feet.
BTW, I like to see you play, but I think you should make your play more aggressive. But it’s not easy to see your game in our country.
June 25th, 2008 - 11:14
Come on Channing, don’t become a bandwagon fan! If you’re grew up in AZ you’ve gotta stick with your team, that’s just the way it goes (otherwise i definitely would’ve jumped ship during the JailBlazers years)
June 25th, 2008 - 11:16
Tiger Woods, hands down.
June 25th, 2008 - 11:47
I have to go with Michael Phelps. Total domination in his sport and in multiple events. Before you all start laughing, just know that swimming is the hardest sport on the planet. Try it sometime! Go Blazers! Go Cubs!
June 25th, 2008 - 14:25
Roman Sebrle
June 25th, 2008 - 14:53
Hmmmm, the most athletic person in the world is a tough question. I am not familiar enough with all the track & field athletes, so I can’t really pick any of them, although there are probably several that could be in the discussion. Out of the major professional sports, the athlete that impresses me the most is LeBron James. His size, strength, speed, leaping ability, etc. is amazing. At minimum, he has to be in the discussion.
By the way, Go Cowboys! Every true American roots for America’s Team.
June 25th, 2008 - 15:50
Pound for pound I think gymnasts are the strongest athletes in the world. I think current US and World Champion Shawn Johnson is probably the most athletic person in all of sports. She is incredibly strong, flexible and very fast. I heard that once Clyde Drexler watched the daughter of one of his friends do a press handstand (sitting on the floor in a straddle, hands pressing flat on the floor, lift hips and feet off the floor with straight legs and press into a handstand then lower back down ending in a straddle off the ground balancing on hands). He was positive he could do it! But he couldn’t even lift his feet off the ground-funniest thing ever! And Clyde is an amazing athlete!
June 25th, 2008 - 21:59
I agree. Lebron James has to be the most athletic person in the world. He could have been a pro bowl receiver in the NFL if he stayed with it. I mean the guy is a total freak of nature. Go Cowboys btw!
June 26th, 2008 - 07:54
It’s LeBron James for me too. That guy is nasty. By the way, he is showing signs of decent acting skills too (Vitamin Water commercial). Dare I say it — he’s only 23 or 24, and he may just give the legendary MJ a run for the greatest ever.
Hey Channing – how about coming back east to the Knicks?
June 26th, 2008 - 16:57
It’s gotta be Lance Armstrong. Winning all of those Tour de France races was amazing, but then the guy starts running three hour miles? That’s just incredible…sports like cycling and running require such athleticism. Skill is at a bit of a premium, given how one dimensional each sport is, but the athleticism required is so awesome. Lance is the man.
June 26th, 2008 - 19:16
Hey Channing.
I’m a fellow St Marys Knight from the class of ‘98.
I still went to games long after I graduated to see both you and Bayless play. I recently moved to Portland this past year and went to a few Blazers games.
So how excited are you to have Bayless coming to Portland? I love the Arizona connection we have up here now, with the two of you and now also with Ike.
This next season should be exciting. Should be a playoff year.
June 26th, 2008 - 19:29
Oh, and to answer the question:
I hate to say that the most athletic person around would come from one of the least demanding sports, but with Tiger’s recent display at the US Open, he would have to get my vote. He put on a clinic with a torn ACL in his left leg and a stress fracture in the right.
June 26th, 2008 - 19:30
Jerryd Bayless!!! Nice pickup by KP
June 26th, 2008 - 22:58
Bayless … nice
Also … JJ is gone
June 27th, 2008 - 01:03
CF44 … You gotta love KP.
With Jerryd you now have 4 potential All Stars in your lineup (Jerryd,Brandon,LA12,Oden) along with a deep bench(Webster, You, Przy, Blake, Diobu, and (maybe) Fernandez).
June 27th, 2008 - 11:43
If you are going to say Lance Armstrong, then you have to say Michael Jordon since they both are retired.
Nadal is one in-shape cat who can play top-tier tennis on a sun-baked court and kill his opponents. That has to be worth something. Also, professional soccer athletes are like long distance racing horses. Playing basketball also takes a lot of conditioning and shows how great of athletes they are. Too many breaks in football for me to consider them top-tier.
Most would kill me for saying that though. Rugby guys are amazingly tough and in good shape.
June 27th, 2008 - 12:35
Denver Broncos hands down and here’s why: division contender year after year. Even their down seasons are better than 1/2 of the league’s average ones. Innovative coaching staff. An owner that looks after his players and really wants to win regardless of cost. Great stadium. Great team colors. What else are you looking for in a team?
I must believe that the best ‘athlete’ in the World must be some olympic caliber gymnast? (strength, balance, flexibility, mental strength).
June 27th, 2008 - 12:57
Alberto Salazar is pretty insano! I’ve met a couple people who are part of his Oregon Running Project, and who just happen to be running at the olympic trials in Eugene this weekend. They say he is totally dedicated to their athleticism. His pool at home has a treadmill built into it’s floor so they can do resistance training…not many people take it that far!
But yes, there are SO MANY awesome candidates. One of the best jobs ever to be a pro athlete!
June 27th, 2008 - 14:15
Roman Sebrle!
June 27th, 2008 - 17:16
i think the most athletic person is kobe bryant, but my dad says its tiger woods. and do u think portland is getting jerryd bayless? i also had alot of fun at your basketball camp.
June 27th, 2008 - 17:43
The most amazing athlete in the world? Changing Frye, of course! Why? Because LeBron James doesn’t have a blog!
June 27th, 2008 - 22:27
Dood Chan, you are living in Portland man, it would be a shame if you didnt pull for the Seahawks. We got Julius Jones this off season which will be a good compliment to our passing game. Your living in Hawk Territory, stay true!
June 29th, 2008 - 14:09
Portland is not Hawk Territory. Seattle is over 200 miles away and most importantly, in a different state.
Channing, go with the Cards, I have a feeling they will have a break out year this season.
And there is no way Tiger Woods is the most athletic person in the world.. thats just preposterous. He may be the most dominant athlete in his sport, but he is not the most athletic.
The most athletic is probably a gymnast like some have said.
June 29th, 2008 - 17:09
Tyson Gay. I’m stoked for the Olympics!
side note… Excited about the addition of a fellow Wildcat?
July 1st, 2008 - 10:36
Channing!
Hey it’s your big fan Blazermaniac Andy. I have been reading as much as I can on Jerryd Bayless, and in one of the articles it claims that you two played together on some playgrounds in Arizona when he was young? Can you write a blog about what you know about him and how you think he could impact our team next year? And maybe one to tell us your favorite places around the city?
See you next season Boi!
Andy

Growing up in Arizona I can understand your frustration. But how about San Diego Charges!! I’ve been a Rams fan since 92 but two words….Antonie.Cason! He to me is the perfect definition of a Wildcat! He’s going to rock San Diego, plus it’s a sweet town.
Rather than that, quit NFL and stick to college because AirZona is taking off!
July 3rd, 2008 - 13:51
You Seahawks fans are pathetic. Obviously you havent been to Seattle lately or you’d know that it’s people look down apon Portland as an inferior ciy and it’s people like redheaded step-children. So why you’d want to root for ANY of their sports teams is beyond me.
And by rooting for Seattle, you only add to the economic legitimacy of the NFL’s decision to never give Portland its own football team.-
July 3rd, 2008 - 14:44
Channing, saw you at Fred Meyer today loading on up alcohol. Good man!
The Wall Street Journal had an article on the world’s best athlete last month, and came up with a top 10 list. They said the winner was Roman Sebrle, a decathlete, from the Czech Republic.
Check out the article (link should work for at least 7 days) at:

Cheers.

Channing your the man, good to see you get more playing time, you deserve it for sure. That 3 was sick tonight too (spurs). Look forward to seein you play for us next year, we all know your not goin anywhere, you belong in Rip City.
