Hey Channing!!

Congrats on the guitar. Paul Allen is pretty good, when you see him, that's definately something you should talk about.

Hi Channing,
Way late to this topic, but I did not see Frank Zappa's name mentioned in any of these posts. Nor did I see Jimmy Page's name. Of all the guitar parts I've learned over the years, these 2 cats have some impressive material that is equalled by very few. They both have dexterity, but their sound is also blues based and dirty. Especially Zappa. Although, Zappa's music can be challenging to listen to; there are many great guitar moments. Page and his work with Zeppelin are better known and probably easier on the ears. Just my 2 cents. Good luck in the upcoming season!!

C Frye, you gotta check out the movie Crossroads. Not the $&*!! movie with Brittany Spears but the 80's movie with Ralph Macchio. It's kind of slow but there's a guitar off at the end with Steve Vai and the Devil is involved. Steve Vai is awesome, check him out. All of the best (fastest) players are in Metal. Check out Dragonforce on youtube. There is a video with dueling guitar solo's that will blow your mind.

bro...i dont know how to tell you this any other way...you're in the NBA...you could probably pay for real guitar lessons and learn much faster than a youtube video or from a book.

you should join a band and put up some songs on myspace...like the glory days of bust-a-bucket

Most people that start playing guitar quit fairly quickly because it takes a while to pick up (most people think its easy for some reason) and it hurts the fingers but trust me i started playing when i was 12 and i'm in my twenties now and no matter what is going on in life i always have the guitar to escape everyday life. The best of all time would be Hendrix and Gilmore (Pink Floyd) at least in my mind. Being a ball player you got an advantage because you got long fingers i've got the same thing going for me and trust me it helps a ton some of my buddies have no hope their fingers just ain't cut out for the guitar. Buy a loop pedal when you get a chance it is nice to jam or various riffs i've got a Line6 dl4(very nice delay and decent loop pedal).
